Our story

Matthew Hatcher is owner and winemaker, and his wine making talents have put Hatcher on the "Don’t Miss" list of Foothill wineries. He is assisted by his brother/partner, Sewell Hatcher and assistant winemaker Scotty Hancock.
 
Hatcher Winery, established in 2002, is located in the Sierra Foothills with a tasting room in downtown Murphys and a winery in Vallecito.  Our vineyards are located in Angels Camp and Vallecito, where we grow Zinfandel, Syrah, Carignane, Merlot and Malbec.
 
Matt’s commitment as an owner/winemaker is to work with other vineyard managers in growing premium fruit complemented by the best oak barrels to suit the wines. He manages his vineyards with the same level of integrity, producing the Estate Zinfandel that has been so well received.
 
Hatcher wines cover a wide spectrum of tastes and are reasonably priced. Current production is from fruit grown in the Sierra Foothill region. Our commitment is to this region but, when necessary, we will seek the best fruit from other areas as well. Matt’s wine making style is still evolving as he learns new and innovative viticulture and wine making practices to yield powerful, yet balanced, red and white wines with classic aromas, rich textures and lingering flavors of French oak.
 
We invite you to enjoy our wines in the historic cellar tasting room in downtown Murphys 7 days a week or Friday through Sunday at the winery on Highway 4 in Vallecito.
